I have noticed a lot of Christians talk about Islam in an almost shameful light…I think they hate that faith. Any little piece of news that comes out about Islam is criticized to the Nth degree and made for all people within Islam to wear – no matter a Muslims personal beliefs on the issues at hand. Christians and their generalizations again.
Christians make some pretty wild accusations about Muslim people and I am not sure they are all that warranted. Maybe I am being naive but I notice the Muslims I meet and converse with are pretty cordial. I work at a Western University and see Muslims all the time – dressed in their traditional garb. I see very little problem from these people – they don’t cheat on tests, they don’t swear, they are fairly cordial, etc. Fact is most problems on a University campus come at the expense of Westeners, and most of that minor crime from those having too good a time (perhaps drunk).
So I hear and read about all this character assasination of people in this group and I think it’s un-called for. I admit some pretty shady things are happening in various places of the world in various Muslim groups (or countries) – but nothing more than what is happening amongst your Western cohorts in the name of ‘freedom’. Yet, we want to draw and quarter the Muslim…I just have to ask…is it because they don’t fit the standard of what is the Western person per se? Is it because racially/culturally they are not as quite understood within the West? Is it because we won’t give them the time of day, nor respect because of the media?
They are people…and I love people…that’s what my faith taught me. I don’t need to hijack another’s faith to make mine look good or sound better.

There is likely some psychological truth to that. I guess I get fed up when I hear people within my faith (Christianity) criticize is such harsh tones about Islam without really getting to know people in that faith.

Well kat this is a Christian blog (but I am an inter-faith person on many levels also) but I am not really an orthodox Christian. It is is true Christianity in general does not use a Jewish lens to view their NT scriptures…in fact it is usually reverse…the NT is used to define the OT. I actually don’t neccesarily function from that ideology – I think the value of the Tanakh is to be learned from Jewish sources since it is their scriptures – and they study them religiously – like Christians and the NT – and Muslims with Quran.
I am an oddity within Christianity in that I reject many fundamental ideas to orthodox Christian ideology and tend to see the Torah playing a bigger piece than is truly let on. I believe in the messiah ideal – just not God being that messian. Etc.
I hate Islam. It is evil. it is sending millions of people to hell, and in the meantime it is murdering people by the bushel and enslaving men, women, and children in a religious and political system that has no regard for human beings, freedom, or dignity.
I hate Islam as I hate Nazism.
There were many good and decent Nazi families during WWII. But they were of no consequence since the vast majority of them would not dare to criticize the evil institution to which they belonged.
It is the same with Islam.
Many good people, but they are irrelevant as they do not speak out in any substantial way regarding the evil designs of an evil religion, hell bent on killing Jews and Christians and subjugating the world under Sharia Law.

May I interject? You must do a little more research. I believe that someone like yourself only offers such a response because you have no knowledge at all. If you are relying on various web resources and media coverage, you are only wronging yourself.
This is the thing that eveyone must understand about Islam, so listen, please my intentions are not to harm anyone:
(1) Muslims are people wandering this Earth in search of means and securing their futures, like any other group of people.
(2) Many Muslims lack knowledge of the basics of their own religion, they are too suffering like many Jews and Christians.
(3) Then there are those who know the weaknesses of mankind and are striving will all their might to seek knowledge and serve justice in society.
(4) Last we have the muslims protrayed in the media, who even knows how factual these stories are…what basis do these stories have if there is no real evidence, explore…!!!
(5) Finally, Muslims who are anywhere from strong to weak all acknowledge they are subject to a greater power, God or ALLAH.
The will of Allah is the fate of every human being whether you choose to accept or not. Fellow brothers and sisters in humanity, whether you Christian, Jewish, whatever faith or no faith…you are welcomed by Islam. Your choices in this short life whether they be wrong or right are held, but Mercy is available to all. You must seek out a true understanding of these topics to astray from ignorance. There is so much working against the greater understanding, the open enemy to all, Satan. Be aware that he only wants your demise and utter failure and that all the whispering comes from him.
And again The-old-adam, you must expand your understanding of our religion of the ONE God before continuing. Many people like yourself only seek to read or watch negative things about Islam are sometimes fighting the greater curiousity of the truth. I bet you spend more time damaging Islam in this way opposed to researching Christianity? Maybe you should reverse your thinking and read the Bible. Many people find the light of Islam in the Bible…because after all, it is too a Book provided through the means of Allah.
May you find peace and success in this life, which leads to success in the afterlife.

I am going to take it Steve thinks he knows a lot about the Muslim faith – which is run by various clerics in various regions in a variety of countries. I am not saying there isn’t some problems within Islam – they’d be the first to admit it (I hope). But what good are you doing Steve with your rhetoric? Publishing the same hatred for hatred…eye for eye…and in this case it’s not even that since I am not sure what a Muslim has done to you?
Nonetheless your answer to the problem is ‘hatred’ and I cannot enter that realm…that is not the realm of the God I choose to follow. I don’t think an answer for anger is more anger – or hatred for hatred – at this rate both religions will stay comfortably at extreme odds with one another…and maybe they will end up destroying one another (who knows what’s possible?).

So if there are some that ‘God blesses’ for their actions within Islam for speaking out against ‘evils’ within Islam – how can you blanketly hate all Islam? Your admission is there is some ‘good’ there.
I do know quite a bit about the Muslim faith and what is contained in the Quran.
I know that I am waiting for the so-called “good Muslims” to speak out against the true believers. But it isn’t happening.
There are some decent people, as there were decent Nazi families.
We must continue to call attention to the evil deeds that are widespread in this evil religion. The poor way they treat women, and non-Muslims, the escalating calls for more and more of Sharia Law in non-Muslim countries, the increasing attacks, all over the world in an effort to convert by the sword.
We must not be silent.
This is a HUGE problem and growing by the minute. Our freedom and our religious freedom and those of our friends and families is at stake.
We must call attention to the bad, and encourage the good where we find it.
In Islam, there isn’t a whole lot of good going on, and hardly any self criticism at all.
I don’t blame those people…they don’t want to die either…but somebody has to have the guts to speak out.

If you are waiting for “good muslims” to speak out against these so called injustices…keep waiting, it will never happen. We do not have the authority or the mind to separate ourselves from other believers. Even if our brother is in the wrong, the farthest wrong, we will not do it. The notion that silence = acceptance is skillfully crafted by the weakest of minds.
And Islam is not to be criticized because Islam is a perfect religion. People, human beings cause error, not Islam. That is true of any faith. The faith only calls all humanity to justice and equity. You need to read the Qur’an with an open heart if you want to understand this…all those lovely quotes about killing infidels and beating women are taken out of context to the severest level…you must read it yourself to understand and science of which the Qur’an was revealed.
Do you criticize Christianity when Pat Robinson says something ridiculous…no, of course, you criticize the man. He is not the face of Christianity, is he. He is a human who is seeking guidance and reason like anyone else.
Another thing, Muslims do not hate anyone. He are not permitted to hate anyone, it is an order by our Prophet (may peace be upon him) and our God and your God, Allah. How can we hate a creation of Allah? When we were all created so delicately and with perfect planning.

How can you critcize a religion (to the degree you do) when you have really no familiarity with it? I agree there isn’t much self-criticism – but how would we know – we aren’t in that faith. So most of what we have to say is pretty much ‘hear say’.

It is a fair comment to say that there are some Christians that hate Islam. I don’t think it is fair for Christians to hate the Islamic faith, though. But then, Christians hate each other over the smallest of issues, so what can you expect when it comes to other forms of faith. If they hate their own, they will most assuredly hate those that are outside of their faith.
We are to hate, wherever we find it.
Some people wouldn’t know evil if it sawed their head off.
One, or two, or ten people in a religion of a billion, does not make a reform movement.
A few Christians wackos that commit a murder here and there does not compare to the institutional advocation of murder that goes on all over Islam every single day.

the big thing here is to realize how anti-pagan Islam is, much like Judaism and the whole prophets of Ba’al deal (and Molech, Asheroth, etc. cananite pagan gods) where Christianity saw them as a market to be converted. Islam also has tenants about “The people of the book” meaning all those who use the TaNaK and believe in the One True God, the God of Abraham. The problem isn’t standing up against ‘evil’ – I do that more than most and would agree those situations need to be addressed. It only becomes a problem when these few ideas define the few billion Muslims on the planet…yes this is a numbers game.
The comparison with those Christians who kill in the name of their God for the sake of abortion is the best example I can find with this issue. All of us would agree this does not define Christianity – but does being against abortion define Christianity? Yes. it does. But some in the faith have over-stepped that line and killed some of these doctors…and we’re all appalled. Yet Christians keep on being ‘anti-abortion’ – is that wrong. No…but it shows how someone could look at all that and think all Christians are ‘for the violence’ also.
You seem to do this same thing to Muslims with the amount of crimes you find within their countries. The problem is Islam is a religion and a politic…Christianity is not quite that (yet).
So when you see Muslim countries committing a lot of serious crimes – yes we should be appalled…but that’s a country for you. Just so you know – Islam thinks our Western countries are ‘Christian nations’…are they? So when they mass amount of crimes in the West – including the same kind of crimes you mention – they think the same way of our system over here.
So call out the crimes – no probs there – but unabraided hatred for the totality of that religion will only keep you close minded to the reality in that faith…not everyone in Islam is the way you think they are. Yeah but Steve some of what we are seeing in these Middle East countries is predicated on that history – as close as some 30 years ago (ie: Afghanistan). So understanding some of their qualms and why they feel this need fr ‘jihad’ is important.
That being said all ‘jihad’ is a struggle.

The same could be said about Christians and there struggle with homosexuality laws, abortion, and other various things they fight for or against…they struggle for their beliefs.
Jihad has become this militaristic term to most people in the West thanks to these very zealot type Muslim groups we have seen as of lately (in Afghanistan and the Taliban). This term is not just that military struggle and more often than not it’s an internal struggle for the person to help improve their society and life.
But we also need to know history to understand why they feel this need to become militaristic and anti-Western. I don’t think that gets discussed much on your blog – but it’s a factor in many young men and women’s minds in these impoverished countries. I think it is worth knowing more about so we can dissect why these Muslim kids are joining the ranks and what their problems with ‘us’ is. History is everything.

They don’t want ‘peace’? As if. That’s like saying you don’t want your right to speak freely because others are able to hold your voice at bay (or force it into the underground). But what does it matter what they think anyways – Jesus is addressing you in those teachings (and Luke and I) concerning ‘peace’…our actions – not the actions we think others should have prior to our interaction with them. Nothing changes what we are being taught by Jesus…not jihad, not terrorism, and not America’s reaction to those countries. We are Christians first – insert country or culture second.
So what I don’t understand is why you don’t feel the need to promote peace with Muslims and understanding – dialogue – instead of hatred?

On the contrary, we are to love our enemies. (that doesn’t mean that we don’t have an obligation to fight evil or protect our neighbors from the kind of threat and evil that Islam practices.

When reading Qur’an, you must understand how the Qur’an is revealed, the timeframe and the purpose. Just as in the Bible, I can’t pick it up and start reading it and making my own ascertions, I would only do an injustice to myself, right? That’s the same with the Qur’an.
This particular verse you are quoting was revealed after the new Muslims fled Mecca and sought refuge in Medina. They were told to keep peace with the Meccans even though they trampled over them seeking to anger them and create hostility.
The final straw was when they raided the houses of all the Muslims, that relatives, remained there, destroyed there property and sold it in the caravans. Among other things, they continuously harmed them and their possessions. Today if someone broke into your house, you would pull out a gun right…if you shot and killed the guy you would be in and out of the courtroom, self defense! Even if the crook was unarmed…anyway, this is the instance that fighting was permitted. The went to WAR. They did not attack the enemy unsuspecting as modern warfare has played out in recent years…there are severe rules…and it doesn’t matter to us as Muslims what you think about it. It matters first and foremost what Allah thinks of our conduct. That’s what people like you can’t understand, and probably never will. It will never matter what you think. We fear Allah, not you.
So anyway, to further explain the story, the true story, this Battle took place, the Muslims were heavily out numbered, why did they acheive victory, they fought with justice. Suicide bombings blah blah blah, these are real wars.
Do so more research, do no try to ascribe your own understanding to proven history.

I am a Muslim that chose Islam in my early 20’s. I am born and raised in America. Went to ASU, enjoyed all the common times that young adults do, maybe that why have the perception I do. If you are living your life asking quetsions randomly about the injustices that exist…you seek to surround yourself with people that believe in harmony, believe in CHANGE. You are missing the point. I don’t know the Qu’ran that well – only read 1/2 way through it in my life (have a copy at home)…so I cannot defend those scriptures. Do I agree with the basic premise I read in them – not really – I am pretty peace loving in nature and don’t plan on changing anytime soon.

But the issue here is that if you looked at Christianity over the course of history, it doesn’t exactly have the most stellar record. Yes, it did good things. It also did a lot of horrible things as well. But I’m sure you would be the first to say that we can’t take those horrible things and use them to say the entire religion is evil, or all those who practice it are evil. I mean, we could easily say that if the Catholic Church today was the same as 1,000 years ago, it would be just as eager to subjugate the world under Christianity by any means necessary.

It’s obvious they are not the ‘same’ textually and religously. They do have a lot of same coincidences though – historically. What can be found in Islam can be found in Christianity at some point – and even in this day in age…religiously they function alike sometimes.
But it’s obvious there are huge differences in the way they function and focus. For example, in Christian teachings there is no room for violence – that is the teaching of Jesus (non-violence). This is not the case with Islam – they have the right to self-defense with violence…and they get to define self-defensible situations…which I think can lead one further away from the idea of peace.
Islam does teach ideas that help keep women as second class citizens to men and not address the actual problem at hand – men. I see women wearing the hijab all the time at school and I see women right beside them wearing normal Western regalia…trying to look sexy. I realize the problem is not what the woman wears – it’s what the man wants to see…hijab or not. This is ducking an issue or morality that is within men…whereas in Christianity we fully admit we ‘lust’ and we need to internally deal with those wanderings of the mind.
On some levels we differ. But Steve I cannot defend your portrayal of Islam in general – it’s too wide scope and generalizes a tad too much…making it at least dishonest and not within the spirit of truth. I think you point out some cases and problems within Islamic regions and see how horrible those things are – and they are horrible. But that is not everyone in Islam – just like how we all are not picketing gays or bombing abortion clinics…even if the majority of Christians does consider homosexuality and abortion a ‘sin’.

The fruits of Islam are well known. Look at how women and non-belivers are treated. Look at the fear that “moderate” Muslims have, and how they are afraid to speak out against the radicals and terrorists. Look at the desire to subjugate people and to install Sahria law and a caliphate.
It isn’t a pretty site, but people need to look at the truth of Islam and wake up, and speak out against it.

If you won’t speak out against evil, then you are part of the problem.
In Christ Jesus, we have the forgiveness of our sins and we are made right with God by Christ’s deah and His being raised from the dead. No longer do we have to wonder if we are good enough. In Jesus Christ, we are good enough because He gives us the forgiveness we need.
In Islam, you must work and strive and do the 5 pillars, and even then you have NO assurance (unless you kill for Allah). That is not freedom. That is slavery.
Wrong. Wrong. and again, Wrong.
The Five Pillars of Islam are not the assurance of paradise we are all seeking. Allah does not need us to do any of them, they are for our own good. To keep us on the straight path. Human beings need guidance, man made rules are garbage.
No person knows his or her fate.
This is what I always struggled with in Christianity. How can you be so arrogant to say what God will do. The way “some” Christians speak of the Creator is insulting to anyone. Do you have no cause to fear the Creator?
Why would I leave the promise of paradise for the exchange of acceptance of Christ as Lord? Why would I do that? If there wasn’t a problem with it in the first place.
Why are thousands of Christians exploring that..? What is the reason, Adam? Please tell me. Because yes there are many truths in Christianity, but you are missing the point. The biggest point yet.
I am not part of the problem, I am actually honest. That is the problem with most people, have no courage to stand behind truth. Fear men more than the Creator, that is a shame.
I encourage you to visit as local masjid (mosque), just observe, I guarantee you will be treated like a brother. Again do not let media control your mind. Don’t do it Adam!
The New Testament does not command Christians to kill. Jesus tells us to love our enemies. We can protect our neighbors from evil , yes. But we do NOT go out and kill non-Christians, or try and FORCE people to believe as we do, the way that so many Muslims do.
There is no compulsion in religion.
You cannot force a heart to belief. It is not in your hands or mine.
What would the point of forcing someone into believe if it doesn’t mean anything? That is the one true thing every individual is accountable for.

I’m totally free in Christ. I can say what I want, wear what I want, pray… or not pray when I want, drive a car if I want, eat pork if I want, have a beer if I want , have Jews and Muslims as my friends if I want…and a million other freedoms.

I have eyes to see what Islam is all about.

He died for you, that you might be free from opressive religion, as well.

I have been to Saudia for hajj, thank you. It is a beautiful place Mash Allah. But you cannot understand obviously.
I never said our man made societies are without flaws, brother. You cannot compare what human beings to the faith. I have never done that in Christianity. The controversies of priests and I can’t have say what has happened as we all know are not the reasons to take me from that faith. It is not even Christianity as whole, it is portions of it. Not the people. I would never let what people, sinners like myself, determine my faith or my path. It would be an injustice only on myself, brother.
I hope you understand what I am saying here. I really do. We can’t measure by other sinners. It is stupid. So, give me all the examples of so called Muslims, or actual Muslims that make mistakes, it doesn’t interfere with my strength through Allah and his prophets and messengers. They came for no other reason but to give us the guidance we all so desperately need. Every last one of us.
If whatever you do is going to be forgiven just by one declaration…no possible other way, direct pass to heaven, what is the point of Judgement Day? Why should we do good works? Why? Aren’t there those out there who declare their faith and commit horrible acts unrelated, are they still going to heaven?
Allah GOD is the most Merciful. He is the best Judge. He knows you and I better than we think we know ourselves. Why can’t we trust that alone.
I do some Muslims. Very nice people. But they are not free. And they are afraid to speak out , to criticize their own.
Here’s one woman, a life long Muslim woman who is now free. And who does speak out. She is a brave, free woman :
And brother, she made the choice. No compulsion in religion. Cannot force her heart.
Even if she lived on as a Muslim but in her heart not, Allah would know better.
So, I really can’t say anything to that other then shed many many tears for her. No one is screaming “Kill the Apostate” again another misinterpretted verse of the glorious Quran. We grieve for her.

Religion is a very powerful thing and this was recognised by Mohammad in the 8th century as a way to conquer the world of South Arabia at that time.
Religion is mearly the ‘cover’ for a system of Political ideology and has nothing to do with worshiping G-d nor having a way for true redemtion.
It is sad that many Moslems are deceived by their own “religion” and are held in bondage by the Islamic system.
One only has to look at any Islamic nation to see where it all ends up.
No freedom of choice.
All conduct is regulated from birth to death by a system of ‘law’ known as Sharia. This was taught by Mohammad and is written in a book of instructions known as the Haddith.
Better to believe in the G-d of Abraham, Issac and Ya-acov and trust in the covenants and commandments he gave us together with the promise of redemtion through an offering of blood given on the alter to the one true Elohem resulting in being written in the “Lambs” book of Life for an eternity.
May we all trust in His truth and His way to redemtion this Yom Kippur.
